My old nissan 8hp gave up the goat and I bought a new mercury 9.9. Here is the problem the old teak mount is straight up and down this cause the motor to be kit out a little and does not move thru the water straight up and down and this causes the motor to rise up with power. Any body have any ideas?????

Take a photo and post. Not all the information is included. First, is the tilt of the motor all the way adjusted down.

If yours is like my H23, the transom is not vertical, so a motor mount will cause the outboard leg to tilt up toward the back, i.e., the prop thrust is not horizontal but angles up toward the surface. Probably no big deal, but I added spacers to the upper bolts holding the wood mounting block to the actual aluminum mounting bracket frame, behind the wood and in front of the aluminum. Only need about 1.5 inches or so of extra gap to make the outboard leg pretty vertical. I got some PVC fittings about an inch diam, maybe a bit wider, and around 2 inches long. Filled the center of the tubes with epoxy and then drilled a hole down each axis, and ground down one end of each to the right angle to match the tilted wood block. I needed longer upper bolts of course.

I think newer mounts may have a way to adjust for such a reverse transom, but I'm too cheap to have bought one. If your transom is not reverse angled, then you should be able to use the outboard tilt itself to adapt.
