I have got a 1997 Hunter 26, and I'm in the process of installing a charger/inverter and shore power hookup. There are some interesting pages around the web detailing individual electrical projects, including on this superb website, but the one thing I have not been able to pin down is where the boat's ground is located. The wiring diagram in the owner's manual is about as vague as can be - though, given that there only appears to be lighting and a bilge pump installed in the factory, I'm starting to think there is no ground.
In the absence of an existing ground, I'm wondering what the tried and tested through hull ground options are. The centreboard box looks like a prime candidate, but it also looks like a right pain for getting an earth cable to from the battery locker in the stern.
The other interesting looking piece of metal sticking down through the hull is the ballast tank screw... what is on the bottom of that? Is the ballast tank plug a metal plate, or is it fibreglass? It certainly looks like a simple place to get an earth cable to...
I would be very grateful for any pointers in the right direction.
