I am planning on up grading my 26.5 by installing genoa tracks, a deck organizer and 3 rope locks all on the port side. It came with 2 fixed point jib sheet blocks and 2 rope locks and a single cabin mounted winch all on the starboard side, except for the port jib block. This model has a fiberglass headliner with about 1/2 to 3/4 inch space between the deck and cabin headliner. I am looking for information on how to install these devices without creating dimples in the headliner or having the remove it. Does any body out there have experience with this project. Please contact me at wcolley@tampabay.rr.com. Thank you Wes Colley # 403

Aluminum Backing Plates

First remove a corresponding piece of hardware or winch on the starboard side and check to see if the screws don't thread into imbedded aluminum plates. My 1986 28.5 had aluminum plates on both sides so I drilled and tapped holes for new line organizers, new rope clutches and a new winch on the port side, Also drilled new holes for a Harken winch to replace the starboard side cabintop winch. I filled the old holes with Marinetex. and just for 'belt and suspenders' I did use washers and acorn nuts below the winches and rope clutches on the interior. There was no hollow space between the top of the deck and the underside of the liner in any of the areas I drilled for new hardware.
