Hi, looking for information , drawings, etc for the set up of an asymmetrical for hunter 26.5 OR spinnaker I have 2 sails with the boat but I dont believe I have the set up, sheets ,blocks etc or it was removed. was there a standard spinnaker set up on this boat? spinnaker pole etc? any information on what ,where and how would be helpful thnx

Forget it or pay the big bucks
The 26.5 came with one jib halyard and a main. There is no provision made for a spinnaker. The PO of my 26.5 had an assymetrical spinnaker that he must have hoisted using the jib halyard because I found a curious three-eyed shackle in the spin bag. The shop foreman at Norton's Yachts told me that to outfit my 26.5 properly for my spinnaker, the top of the mast would have to be re-enforced (since it is a fractional rig), a sheave added top and bottom to accept a spin halyard, another clutch and assorted turning blocks. I sold the spinnaker to someone with spin rigging already installed.

I too have an asymetrical jib. I checked with several marinas sail manufacturers and sailboat fitters. You can run a internal sheaves, but would need to mount one at the top of the mast about 8 inches above the forestay and then an exit plate at the lower part of the mast. You can also mount a padeye externally and mount a small block to it (max 5/16 line) then run your halyard externally and wrap it to a cleat mounted on the lower mast. This padeye should be mounted 8" to 10" above the forestay. If you have a furler, you can use something like an ATN Tacker for the tack, or a short pole pushed forward of the bow. This is what I am opting to do. Ed

Adding an akite to your boat...
...is a very easy thing to do and you'll love it. If you don't have a spinnaker halyard or the halyard sheave box on the mast you can easily add one. Cut a slot in the leading edge of the mast above the forestay and install the box. Then add an exit plate about 7' above the deck and a jam cleat. Mount a snatch block at the bow for the tack line to run back to the cockpit. Finally a pair of 3/8" x 50' spin sheets and a pair of turning blocks mounted at the aft end of each toe rail and you're done. You don't need a pole with the assorted gear that goes with it. That's for symmetrical spinnakers only. Flying an akite is very simple and loads of fun. I do it single handed all the time on my 35 footer.

Alan, I need to do some of the things you described for our new asym.
Could you provide a little more detail for: 1) You suggested the use of a jam cleat for the spin halyard. Is that a "V" cleat or a horn cleat w/ one side made to jam a line? 2) Why do you suggest a snatch block? They are 2-3x the cost of a regular block. What advantage do they provide? TIA for your help.

I suggested a snatch block simply because it is removable. Well I used to use one. Now I have a sprit pole with a permanently mounted stand-up block mounted on the end of the sprit. Just make sure whatever block you use is rated for the load. The Euro style jam cleat and horn works perfectly. You could also put a cam cleat on the mast for quick and easy cleating and un-cleating.
