Road King no longer builds trailers for sailboats. Not sure about Magic Tilt but waiting on a response as to yes or no as their design for the 260 will also fit the 26.

Are their any other suggestions for manufacturers that would be able to build a Hunter 260/26 trailer. I need your help as I am at a loss as I am trying to help another sailer

Magic Tilt trailers no longer builds sailboat trailers per my conversation with them. Both Al and Mike at SBO said there was another company that built sailboat trailers but could not remember that company name.
Thanks to @Rick Webb he suggested SAIL TRAILERS located in Columbus GA whose phone is
706-315-3972. John Smith with that company returned my call advising they only build sailboat trailers only. Their website indicates this with a Hunter 240 noted built by sailors.

I was given permission to post this information by SBO

Eddie English helps us keep our dozen and a half trailers in shape for our youth sailing program. He does all kind of trailer repair and manufacturing.

He stays very busy and is not the greatest at calling back. I doubt very much he has plans for a 26 or a 260 trailer available to him. If however, plans or even line drawings were available or if there was a trailer for him to copy he would do an excellent job.

He is our go to guy for anything trailer related. Milton is near Pensacola and about an hour away from Fort Walton. We pass at least three other trailer places to get to him. If there is not somewhere that has the references to construct a trailer already, he'd be my pick.

For those who might want to have a trailer built, the H260 trailer specs and measurements are listed here:
H260 Trailer 2

@Crazy Dave Condon my '98 260 trailer (built by Hunter Marine) only has 3 vertical supports for each bunk rather than 4 shown on this page and on newer boats. Any reason for the change? I'm lacking the extra cross-member needed for a 4th support. Have not had any problems- I just replaced the hull and centerboard bunks this fall. Side bunks are 12 ft 2x8 and the centerboard is 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood 8 ft long x 7 3/4" wide.

@caverun

A 260 buyer got pulled over in Texas and cited for too much overhang with a Hunter trailer. They decided to comply with an extension of the trailer adding a four support each side to be built by Magic Tilt.

Load Rite only has the plans for the hunter 25 built around 2006 era and would build it. It is the one which has the shoal draft keel

I fear this happening with our 240. I may be fortunate though, I have all the import paperwork from the USA. I will argue why did they let it into Canada if it’s too wide.

@SteveHughessails

measure the width of the 240 at its widest point and then see what the maximum allowed width is. Generally the axle is less than boat width. Max width of the 240 is 8 ft and 3 in at its widest point. If overwidth, I think you could get a wide load permit

We are right at the mark. If an officer wanted to, he could cause us some grief.
We will be ok :)

8’6” in BC Canada too. It also says regardless of that, the load is not allowed to be wider than the vehicle carrying it.
Like you say beam is 8’3” trailer with slightly bulging tires, 8’3”

It has been a long time but only 8 ft and 6 in was the norm driving in Canada with trailerable sailboats. I would suggest that you look that up to verfy

The Hunter trailers are WAY over legal limit, with the 2 tall poles that guide you in. I have a 23.5 and the distance between those poles is way over 8’6”.

So. I cut the poles off and built wooden “keel guides” into the trailer bottom. Works better and now I am not way over legal limit.

That’s valid. During my getting ready to pull our 240 I didn’t like the u-bolts that held one of the guide pole assemblies on so I removed it. After that is when I started measuring, thanks to this post. Now that I know, I will pull the PVC extensions poles off before hitting the road, thanks.

If you are concerned about the posts being too wide; simply unbolt them from the trailer and the hunter 240! Will be under 8 ft 6 inches. Remember, those posts were only used to guide the sailboat onto the trailer. The original plans for the hunter 23.5 cane from me and were given to hunter Marine
