Hunter 26/260 height on trailer

I have a shed with a 10' door height which I could modify up to 11' and I'm looking for a trailerable boat that will fit within these dimensions. So I'm asking anyone that owns a Hunter 26 or H260 how much clearance is needed with the mast down flat on the bow pulpit and stern. It would also help to know which trailer you're using. Thanks.

I'm not sure 11' would be enough. The mast stores at an angle and gets higher as you go aft. Maybe you could remove the mast-holder-upper at the stern and lay it down flatter but I'm not the one to tell you can or cannot. Crazy Dave Condon would know for sure but he's in bed sick right now. I don't know if he's even looking at the forum nowadays. Anyone else have a better answer?

Depends

My H26 mast measures 10' 6" at the stern but to swing it under the side of my canopy (can't back in straight) I remove my center brace, tie a line to the mast , swing it over the stern mast cradle and lower it down to 9' 6" (spreaders on the deck) and tie there, to get in. Then once in, pick it up put it back on the cradle and replace the center brace. Easy.

I cannot recall the actual height with mast resting on rear or aft mast support carrier. If anyone can help us here, I would appreciate that.

However, make sure the ground is level with no dips going into that shed. One thing to lower the mast in the back is to take a 4 X 4 for the front of the bow pulpit, mark the underside of that board and cut out say an inch so it will fit over the top of the bow pulpit. Then cut a 1-2 invch area out on top just big enough for the mast to sit in and secure down. I use to use the bow cleats in tying the mast down. It does lower the back end.

Ok fellows, can someone please measure your boat with the mast down in the aft in the trailering position and let us know.

Gray125,

My H260 is sitting on my trailer and I went out and measured it for you. From the tip of my mast (top) to the ground I measure 12'.

Couple things... I'm sure there isn't much difference between various trailers so the 12' measurement should be pretty accurate. My mast sits on the front pulpit and on a mast crutch on the stern with the spreaders barely touching the deck. Pretty standard set up.

I have an antenna and my wind speed/direction stuff that mounts on the top of my mast. I did not measure from them as I'm not sure what is on your mast. That is why I only measured from the actual end of the mast. If you have anything that stands proud of your mast you will have to determine what that will add to your height.

If it's shy by just a foot or so with the door clearance, you might could raise the base of the mast on the bow pulpit several inches, if it doesn't put additional weight onto your spreaders. BrianW

Brian;

Hope life is treating you well sir. Look at my orginal response about a 4 X 4 and cutting it to fit to the bow pulpit with the upper center cut out some to fit the mast vs. the foot of the mast sitting low in the lower u shape portion of the bow pulpit. That does lower the back of the mast somewhat which I thought was better for transporting.
