We have just purchased a Hunter 25 ('74) and are rebuilding it. It had such beautiful lines,(I believe it is called a racing hull, because we have seen other old 25's which are much different) that we couldn't resist. We have figured out most of what we need to do, but one thing remains a problem. There is no rigging, and we can not afford to hire a rigger to do it all. I would love to hear from someone who has this model and knows the lengths of the rigging. All replies will be appreciated. Thanks Alan

Catchy Surname! Are you a Trekkie? Congratulations on saving a relic! I did the same thing. I have a 1973 H25 with the "racing hull". I might be able to help you a little. There is quite a bit of info on the H25's if you check the archives. I'm going to visit my boat this weekend to get some dims and take some things off her. I could go for some Florida weather right now, lucky son-of-a-gun. It's 10 degrees and snowing! Ike "Freebie"

Some info.

But alas no wire dimensions. However be sure to read the current issue of "GOOD OLD BOATS". And you can see some diagrams at: http://people.ne.mediaone.net/tlyons/tdl/hunter/index.html And there are lots of H25 pictures over at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=204587&a=1888331 Problem with this address - you have to replace the 'and' with a real ampersand and no quotes. For some reason the ampersand will not display on HOW. With the new photopoint you have to select "show all" and also "fullsize". Enjoy the refit.

How do you know that you cannot afford a rigger?

Alan: How do you know that you cannot afford to hire a rigger? A lot of these guys will pass on their discounts on the materials in exchange for the labor. I would shop around for some estimates. If you do the rigging a screw up a couple of cables it may cost you more than you saved. Not to mention that if you really screw up it can cost you your life!

I did it with a 1977 H25 and I don't regret a dime

I bought a 1977 H25 2 years ago and she was in pretty sad shape. I'm now just finishing off her interior. I worked on the standing and running rigging first, motor second, haul out and then the perks -- from interior electrical and lighting, electric sink pumps, water tank, upholstery, draperies, electronics and the initial outlay of $3,500 included a brand new motor, bottom job/keel work and new Doyle full batten main. I think over the last two years I'm into her about another $2,500 -- well worth it. I basically did my homework. Got work and parts done through every supply connection (port supply, internet, discount programs, etc.), but I could have never done as well had I not been a yacht club member. Amazing the assistance you can obtain and the connections you can make for good work at a reasonable price. But be prepared to help others at haul outs and for repairs too. You have nothing to lose and tons to learn. There are a few companies that if you send them your mast height measurements to deck that they will completely build your rigging for about $800. They are pretty good but are in California. If you wish, I can get the info. for you. A friend "in the know" did this for me and I got my standing rigging totally replaced for $800. Had to install and tune it about 3 times to get it just right but it was well worth it. Tuning rigging is a pain but if you have some knowledgeable help, you've got it. I encourage you to go to the wall with your boat. It's a good hull and a great boat and you will have lots of enjoyment from it! Just chalk it up to a bunch of bad haircuts you didn't pay for, the extra beer you didn't consume for a few weekends, the hunting and fishing trips you didn't take... you get the message! If you really like/love your boat, there are ways to get things done without going bankrupt. And it will be worth it! sv Ms. Toad's Wild Ride aka a former disaster!
