I did it with a 1977 H25 and I don't regret a dime
I bought a 1977 H25 2 years ago and she was in pretty sad shape. I'm now just finishing off her interior. I worked on the standing and running rigging first, motor second, haul out and then the perks -- from interior electrical and lighting, electric sink pumps, water tank, upholstery, draperies, electronics and the initial outlay of $3,500 included a brand new motor, bottom job/keel work and new Doyle full batten main. I think over the last two years I'm into her about another $2,500 -- well worth it. I basically did my homework. Got work and parts done through every supply connection (port supply, internet, discount programs, etc.), but I could have never done as well had I not been a yacht club member. Amazing the assistance you can obtain and the connections you can make for good work at a reasonable price. But be prepared to help others at haul outs and for repairs too. You have nothing to lose and tons to learn. There are a few companies that if you send them your mast height measurements to deck that they will completely build your rigging for about $800. They are pretty good but are in California. If you wish, I can get the info. for you. A friend "in the know" did this for me and I got my standing rigging totally replaced for $800. Had to install and tune it about 3 times to get it just right but it was well worth it. Tuning rigging is a pain but if you have some knowledgeable help, you've got it. I encourage you to go to the wall with your boat. It's a good hull and a great boat and you will have lots of enjoyment from it! Just chalk it up to a bunch of bad haircuts you didn't pay for, the extra beer you didn't consume for a few weekends, the hunting and fishing trips you didn't take... you get the message! If you really like/love your boat, there are ways to get things done without going bankrupt. And it will be worth it!sv Ms. Toad's Wild Rideaka a former disaster!
