I am a novice sailor, but I am researching information on good quality used boats. I liked some of the reviews posted by some of the 25.5 owners, but I couldn't find in the spcification archives if this particular model is trailerable or not. My question is, is the Hunter 25.5 a trailerable pocket cruiser or, if not, is there a similar model that is? Thanks.

25.5

I own a 25.5, it was my first boat 8 years ago, and I'm still enjoying the boat. It has been a very good boat for me, to learn the ropes on and for the family to enjoy. Yes it is trailerable, although since it's not a water ballast boat you'll have to have a deep launch ramp for it. Mine is a fin keel with a 4 ft draft, but I know that it came with a shoal draft keel as another option.

Yes but to a point

We trailerd our 25.5 shoal keel boat for a couple years. But not every weekend, we hauled it to the lake in the spring yanked it mid season for a 350 mile trip to Lake Michigan and a week later pulled it back to our home lake. Doing this is not a problem but doing it every weekend would not be much fun. The 25.5 is a great boat best boat in the 25 foot range. IMHO far better boat then any of the water ballest boats. It offer's all that a bigger boat does and has a big boat feel. Again best boat on the market in the 25 foot range. Cliff H 28.5 "Red Dog"

Here's a photo

Steve, I have an 86' 25.5 Fin Keel, and I love the boat. I have had other boats, but this is one of the best ever built in the 25 foot class. It has lots of wood inside, and a big boat feel, and easy to sail. I have lots of photos of 25.5's all over the country. Below is a photo of the shoal and fin keels.

unlimited potential in a 25.5

We own a 1984 25.5 and love this boat. We are leaving for the Bahamas to cruise full time aboard her in 9 weeks. If you go to www.pocketcruisers.com and click on "photo gallery", you can see our boat (S/V Empty Pocket) and the potential of it. You would not regret your purchase!

Might not want to trailer

Being that the boat is 9' 1" wide, I think there is a wide load permit required to trailer, not that you would get stopped, but just a word of caution. Also, I would say the mast is not as easily raised/lowered as in other boats designed to be trailerable. However, I have owned an '86 25.5 for 5 years now and absolutely love it. Others comment on its big boat feel and they are right on. I have pictures of mine at the site below if you want to see some of the interior & exterior shots you might not see elsewhere. Good luck in your search. - Mel http://imaginenation.com/MelKirsten/Boat/Boat.htm

Local info question for Brian

I've been trying to get info on ramps in the Tarpon Springs/Dunedin/Clearwater area with little success. Is there a ramp you can recommend, preferable somewhere I can leave my tow vehicle and trailer safely for a couple of days. I don't mind paying if it's safe. Thanks in advance. Peter H23 "Raven"

ramps in Pinellas

Hey Pete... I wish I could recommend a good ramp. I keep my 25.5 in the water full time and don't really know of a good place to launch with parking. I can recommend the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) for that local info as they regularly peruse the waterways and would probably know the best places to launch and park. (That's how I found my marina!) Good Luck!

Trailerable? Depends....

I suppose that the h25.5 is trailerable. But probably not on a regular basis. Though I know some who have stored their h25.5 on a trailer when not sailing, it is not a boat to be stored in the driveway. IMO, the trailerability of a h25.5 is probably limited to moving her from one lake to another for a vacation / extended stay or a season. It's also convenient for off-season storage. That said, considering its portability the h25.5 is an excellent sailer.
