I'm looking to have my genoa cut from hank on type to roller furling. I need the length of the forestay from pin to pin for a 1984 Hunter 25.5. My boat is currently unavailable until spring so measuring for me is not an option at this time. However, since one of my goals is to reduce the luff to lift the sail off the deck, an inch or two isn't a big deal for me. I'm hoping to get a few answers to see how close the measurements are. Thanks everyone for your time. And think Spring......... :) Bob on "Impulse"

Memory is suspect, but...

It seems like I remember 31' when I installed my roller furler last fall. But, it's in the 70's here today, and I'm headed to the lake after work. I'll take my tape measure and check.

And the answer is ! ! !

31' 10 1/2" from center pin-to-center pin, with turnbuckle closed. Now, how do I know this...because my 25.5 is setting in my drive way

Short considerations

A couple of points on this: 1) You should measure the sail luff length of your specific roller furler to make sure you get the correct length on the recut. 2) If the luff length is the same for roller and hank, you could use might investigate Kiwi Slides to replace your hanks instead of having your sail recut. Lots cheaper and your sail can be converted back to hanks without ripping any seams. 3) I was told by Hunter that they used several spar suppliers and that the actual forestay length might not be the same in all 25.5s.

Length

I measured 32'2" from the top of the jib halyard to the lower pin for the head stay. And the sailing was great this evening!

Thanks!!!

Well, it looks like we have 2 confirmed answers that are just to far apart for comfort. I guess I'll just have to wait until spring when I can remove the cover an verify what my measurements are. Thanks to everyone for your assistance. And for you guys still on the water... enjoy, enjoy. Only 12 more weeks and I'll be sailing. Yee haw.
