Hunter 240 Boom Traveler

Does the lack of a Boom Traveler not attached to Aft Rail versus the Hunter 240 Cockpit Floor location create an issue with obvious entry to the Cabin but also the jibe process where the boom needs short boom swing distance prior to the Jibe ?
This cockpit floor attachment in front of the Cabin and away from the Helm is not like the Catalina models............
Any thoughts

My 26 is the same. I actually like the position of the sheet attachement . I use it to pull up on when exiting the cabin. BUT! I did not like the absence of a traveler so I added one across the bridge deck (see pic).

Regarding the occasional accidental Jibe! First I'd say "don't do it" but to answer your question, I don't think the boom travels farther with a center cockpit attachement.

Uhm. I think end of boom sheeting is considered better for sail control and not loading the boom. The travel of the boom is the same for each - I think. My Ranger had end of boom sheeting from the traveler on the transom. You didn't want to be standing in the aft part of the cockpit for a jibe.
I don't really like bridge deck travelers because of the limited access to the cabin. It's like a beer governor.

The Bimini was designed to clear the boom when mainsail is deployed. The main sheet attachment on the boom will need to be moved forward. I was one of two who were at the hunter plant that designed the Bimini.

As for the traveler location in front of the cabin that is fine but securing to the cockpit seat may be the issue. Unless there is no encapsulated aluminum plates in thre fiberglass, attachment is going to be an issue. There is dead air space between the cabin interior ceiling panel and deck with intermittent places of marine putty. If thru bolting there is a way without the ceiling panel being drawn in. That is why a private message was sent to you.

@rgranger or @caverun, is there encapsulated aluminum plates in the seat section before going into cabin

Yes there is. That is why you see me tapping threads in the left-side picture above. But I also through bolted. I cut out a small cirlce of the interior lining at each bolt point to avoid the dead space.

BTW: I think the addition of a traveler really improves the performance. The boat heels a lot less and can point a little higher.

Exactly why I feel the attachment to the Cockpit deck is a poor engineering design, much less being attached in the absolutely worst entryway into the Cabin. Leaning to Catalina that has the traveler attached to the Aft Safety Rail behind the helm.

One thing about any stern traveler, the mainsheet is angled and if you are sitting on the very back of the cockpit, the mainsheet tends to be in your way which the mainsheet on the hunter 240 would be more preferred

At the end of the day. You can easily move the traveler to the side for easy entry into the cabin
