I recently purchased a 1989 Hunter 23. What holds the large hatch cover up over the cockpit?

Thanks,

rcarbo, originally the 23 had two steel rods that would swing out and would be positioned to hold up the companionway cover.

Paladin, why do you need those shocks? It looks like the Admiral is positioned to hold up the hatch.
I actually never lift mine. I don't like the idea of sailing with it up, just in case I have to walk up there, and would want a flat surface "just in case." And since we are on a lake that bans overnights (not that there is much of anywhere to go) we don't really need it lifted when hanging around for a few hours. My boat is used as a glorified day sailer.

We live on ours 2 to 3 days a week for 15 weeks in the summer, so the hatch is up a lot! The hydraulic struts really make it nice for quick access.

The local boat supply store near me, Wolf's Marine in Benton Harbor, Michigan. They had a box of struts to choose from.
Can you tell me what diameter line you have on your topping lift, reefing line and outhaul. Also do you run these lines back to the cockpit and if so how you do it.

Thanks,
