Installed a raymarine ST1000+ tiller pilot on our Hunter 23. Here's some pics of the install. Very easy. Cantilever mount and a 2" tiller bracket. Sailed in 10-15 knots today and it did great keeping up with the gusts and staying the course.

Very nice installation. What were the measurements on your tiller?

+1. Does the bracket sticking out from the seat back come off so you could sit or lie there when not using the autopilot?
Yes the rod of the Cantilever unscrews so all that is left is the base of it

Looks marvelous.

Did the same with the same unit last fall, except I refused to pay
the outrageous prices for those OEM mounting bits.
Made my own for nothing but my time...

Very nice installation. What were the measurements on your tiller?
The tiller pilot is measured 18" forward of pivot point of rudder and 23.2 from side. Plus the Cantilever. The H23 is about 29 from center of tiller to seat back.
Didn't know what measurements you wanted to know. Hope that helps with your question.

Only 1 concern. The wiring hooks up in the fuel locker and if there is ever a short and fumes, I would be concerned about an explosion or fire. It has happened before and many old timers and I in this industry have seen the results. May I suggest you reroute that elsewhere. I am one who would rather see the posts coming from all of you vs. reading severe burns and/or death.

No.
Shielded connection on a switch. Plug in or out without power then use switch.
I am a professional mechanic 24 years with UPS a few more elsewhere. Been around the block seen how and why fires occur. This isn't one of them.
Thanks for your concern.

I was also an investigator prior being a sailboat dealer often called to the mines when it came to electrical and explosions. Saw fires on boats a few started by a 12 volt line in the gas locker. It is your boat and the decision is yours to make. I simply see an unsafe situation and thought you should know.
