Hunter 23 Sliding Galley Redux

My H23 didn't have the sliding galley when I purchased it.. tossed out long ago by a previous owner. It did however have the original sink, faucet and stove packed away in a cardboard box (along with what was left of the electrical panel and other various wood bits and pieces from the cabin). I would like to build a galley (or should I say, the Admiral insists that I do before she gets on it for any length of time), so I'm looking for some pointers. I ran across this old thread that Kermit started back a few years ago, but it didn't seem to come to any kind of conclusion or provide much detail other than a rather good shot of the original galley:

So, bringing up the dead thread, does anyone have any rough measurements for the galley, and/or any better pictures.. possibly showing more detail of how it slides along the berth rails and side shelf? Or has anyone done anything different, such as a fixed galley somewhere else?

Brad - mine does have the original. I may not get to the boat (still has winter cover on) for a few weeks, but if no one else provides data, I can try to get some info and pics.

I appreciate your help Isaksp00 on this as I do not have the deminsions.
As for the stove, you might want to use the one with the throw away cannister as it is cleaner and hotter. I like hot coffee in the monring.

Dave, I have never even fired up the alcohol stove - we're on a lake that is a decent size but not worth overnighting (the power company that owns the lake prohibits it anyway, though not enforced heavily). All I need is a cooler with beer and other non-alc stuff, to lubricate the winches and tracks

What a bummer not ot be able toi camp overnight which sucks. I agree on a cooler with some good old beer but I use to take moonshine too.

Thanks Peter.. whatever you can get is better than nothing! I am sort of surprised at how many H23's there are with them missing. I guess that due to their design (movable) they are subject to a lot of abuse.

Here's a few pics that might help. There's no sliding mechanism, it's just wood on wood. Slides all the way under the cockpit.

Thanks Mac.. those help a great deal. Looks like it's a pretty simple design that should be fairly easy to reproduce. And after seeing your pictures, I now know where some of those odd bits of wood that I got in the cardboard box came from! If anyone gets a chance, some rough measurements would be great.. and if I get enough info, I'll come up with a measured drawing similar to the one I did for the sliding hatch.

I may get the cover off in the next 2 weeks or so, and I can take measurements and send a quick sketch - if you would like to "professionalize" a draft drawing, great.

If you still need the dimensions, I can sketch it out while I'm at the boat tomorrow. The Origo stove is useful, but the sink doesn't work well in its original design. We keep a big cutting board over the stove so it provides space for mixing cocktails when not in use.

That would be great.. I already have some pretty good base measurements, but the more I can get, the more accurate I can make a final drawing. I'm also missing a few measurements and a couple seem confusing, so it would help figuring out those. Pictures would be a big bonus as well.. particularly those 'unusual' angles, like from underneath and behind showing details not normally seen

See the attached sketch and photos. I assume that you will be using a different sink, so did not include the exact cutout dimensions. It is centered between the stove and the left panel.

The sink lip must not extend above the edge of the left side panel. When the galley slides in, there is very little clearance between it and the acorn nuts under the traveler. In addition, use a 90 degree elbow at the sink drain so the hose doesn't drag along the berth cushion underneath, or whatever you store under there. Good luck finding one. Mine broke.

The floor of the stove compartment sits in between the sides, not under them. You can see that in the photos but not in the sketch. I didn't do detailed measurements on the 7/8x7/8" cleats that secure the top to the sides. Suffice it to say that you need something besides plywood edge joints holding it together.
