The mast of my Hunter 23 is currenlty held in a fix postition with a metal plate that slides into another one that is mounted on the top of the cabin and secured with 2 stainless steel bolts. I had quite some problems to lay the mast down and I wonder if there is some kind of hinge that could be used instead of the metal plates to tipp the mast more easy, without the need of sliding it out of the construction. I guess such a construction would also be most beneficial, if I had to go under a bridge or even if I had to trailer the boat, once I have a trailer. Thanks Bert

mast stepping

There is a ton of info here in the archives about stepping h23 masts , not sure why u had a problem unstepping it , was your rigging still tight or did u loosen ? this boat came with 3 different masts not sure if any had a hinged mast step or not, nothing is impossible if you find the right mast base to fit the bottom of the mast that had a hinged mast step , I was talking to a rigger last week and a replacement for the base that goes on the cabintop was in the 3 hundred dollar range, seems to me that is about half of what u need, I know this doesnt help much but , the more u step andunstep the easier it gets, we / my wife and I used to dread the process, so give it some time and if things dont get better for u and u dont mind spending the money you can most likely find what u are looking for , good luck enjoy the boat Mike
