Looking to see what others have done for folding ladders that mount on the transom. I was using one of those aluminum fixed deals and it broke this weekend. Got 5 years out of it though.

Thanks!

Mine has a stainless support structure with teak planks that form a swim platform, and an L-shaped ladder that folds down. Came with the boat so I have no idea what brand. Since the ladder when folded up "nests" on the top of the platform and against the transom, it is fairly easy to board even from a cheap inflatable (which I did augment with an insert-able wood floor).

Carboman;

been a while since we emailed last. What ever you do, please put backing plates on the inside of the transom when attaching I hope a folding stainless steel ladder to keep the transom from flexing sir. I did that on the 23's as a dealer.

For sure! Do you think it's a good idea to try to fill the transom with something to strengthen it up? Not sure what I would pump in there.

Thanks again!

Nah. I used metal stainless steel straps to distribute the load over the transom. Once I saw a ladder reinforced with untreated pine with no caulking and the owner was wondering why it moved. Duh! the wood being soft pine was wet and you know the rest of the story.

I got a SS folding 6 step ladder that works really nice. It goes way down and I can even get on the boat when its on the trailer. Very handy and makes getting onboard from the water a breeze as the last step is right at my feet when I swim up to it. Here is a picture. Sorry, not a great picture, it shows some damage from the winter, but you get the idea.

I broke mine this summer. I took it to a metal working place where they fixed it for $10.00. A new one from West Marine is $170
