Hello all, I am in the process of repairing/updating a hunter 23. The issue I have at the current time is the wood box that I see in many interior cabin photos. I am looking for the dimensions of the box and how it is mounted. Thank you in advance for the assistance.

I will try measure mine up this weekend. The box screws on the side to two 3/4 x3/4 inch blocks inside the box that is bolted to fiberglass under the doorway

If you don't have a panel at all, you might want to consider building an upgraded one rather than duplicating the rather limited one that came stock. The stock one only had two extra 'accessory' fuses and a single switch for the mast light, which is either the steaming light or anchor light (depending on year) but not both. My original panel is sitting out in the shed in a box, so I'll try to dig it out and get some measurements if that is the way you want to go. I plan on doing a custom one, more in line with something like Kermit has on his H23:

Still the best looking panel I've seen on an H23 :dance:

Thanks, Brad. I wish I were half as good-looking as my electric panel.

Ok, here is what I got;

First off.. these do not appear to be precision made :) The measurements from one side to the other differ by varying amounts.. from 1/16" to about 1/4". All wood used is 1/2" thick with the front piece rounded over on the edges. I believe the 'target' size was 7" wide by 8" high and 3-1/2" deep. The cutout for the panel is 3-3/4" wide by 5-1/2" high. The bottom and side panels are 3" wide, which attach to the rear of the front panel giving the extra 1/2" depth. The tops of the side panels are angled downwards toward the rear by about 10 degrees.. the front measurement (where it attaches to the front panel) is 8", the rear measurement is 7-1/4". There is no top piece, and the hole in the bottom where the wires enter is 1-1/8". I've attached a couple of pictures that may be of use as well.

I'll have to defer to others as to how it was attached.. mine came to me in a box of other stuff the PO had removed for repair/refinishing (photo below). I'm still trying to figure out where half the stuff went :doh:

Cheers,
Brad

Mounted with four screws, coming in from the cockpit below the companionway into the 4 corners of the box.

Thank you for all the replies. The measurements have helped out a lot. I have decided to upgrade similar to Kermit's configuration. Not quite as elaborate as I am single battery and heading toward solar power recharging the battery on the off hours. I'll post ics when I get the project completed.

I use only one battery and have a $100 West Marine solar panel to keep it charged. I wish I had more info on the electric box for you. It was on the boat when we bought it. I do like it!

Panel complete

Thanks for all the information over the weekend the panel was upgraded. I built the box during the week. For the electrical i used bus bars in the back connected all the circuits and corrected lots of erroneous connections, I still have 3 open circuit breakers for expansion. One of the 12V outlets I converted to hot at all times for use as a power source if the batteries in the handheld ship-to-shore go dead. As to the solar panel I intend to secure it to the cabin roof while docked and stow it while under way. The panel is relatively small and capable of 50 watts. The charge controller is in place I just have to work out connections for the panel. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks again
