Hunter 23 Cabin Leaks

I know this has been covered in one place or another, but I have not found the answers I need.

I have a bit of water coming down the electrical lines that run to the mast light that then runs down the compression post. It is not a bad leak just enough to be an issue. Then there seems to be some water getting in from the companion way hatch. This one is more tricky as I am not sure how it is getting in or how to fix it. I have a tarp over the cabin on the deck for now.

I have no experience tracking down leaks on boats and methods of correcting them. That is really what I am looking for. It seems the water comes in somehow and runs to the bottom of the stair way then trickles down to the first floor board where it pools where the first set of keel bolts are. I was able to see the trail as it was colored with teak oil as the previous owner recently oiled the teak.

I probably wont be able to get the boat out of the water until the fall. I am looking to correct anythign I can at the dock then properly fix them this fall when it is on hard.

I removed the wire plugs and resealed the through hulls with buytl tape on my Hunter 23 as they were pretty dried out.

As for the companionway, there's a lot of places it could be coming from... what I have done is just have someone spray the deck and hatch with the dock hose and sit below and try to track down where the water is coming in... then come up with a repair plan based on where the water ingression is occurring.

Thanks. I was thinking that would be the proper action for the companionway stuff. Waiting on my handheld bilge pump to come in. A trip to the boat with that and some towels to test for sure.

You should have a stop on the slider that is above the plexiglass or lexan that should be screwed in. It could be water is coming back on the slider and hitting that stopper piece of wood and dripping down. that might be your problem into the cabin and if so, take it off and reseal the holes and between the length of wood all the way across the wood. I think that might be the problem there.

Also the drain holes under the traveler often plug. I got so frustrated that I ended up drilling additional holes through the extrusion, though probably not ideal

Thanks, guys. I am looking for a cabin/hatch cover to replace my tarp. I will also try to fix the leaky hatches however we get alot of rain in the Houston area. Also, I am looking at a new mainsail cover as mine is falling apart. Does anyone have experience with the covers offered on the hunterowners store?

I may have some water coming in through the bottom rudder bracket bolts. I will probably seal with sealer this season then pull, rebed, reinstall when on dry.
