I have a bow light mounted, but am not 100% satisfied with it. Another 23 in my marina has a stainless bracket, but the owner is never there to ask about it.

Was wondering what others have done.

Thanks,

Dave

Are you talking about the front red/green navigation light? Mine is missing and needs to be replaced, but there is a stainless plate mounted to the front bow rail with the wires run through the railing via a small hole on the underside. I believe the H22's are mounted the same, and I have heard a lot of people complain about it's location as it's very easy to bump and break sticking out front like that. Are yours mounted someplace different? I have thought about cutting holes and mounting lights in the hull about a foot or so from the front tip just under the rubrail like my old H27 had, but haven't figured out how to gain easy access to do so.

If yours are mounted different, a picture would be wonderful!

Cheers,
Brad

Yeah the placement bites. That was the first thing I had to replace on my boat. If I had to do it again i'd run wire beneath the carpet and place a red and green under the rub rail rather than replace the current configuration.

I have mine mounted on the hull just 5" below the rub rail and about 2" behind the bow. They are safe from anchor and other damage. The distance behind the sight line is important so that one light disappears at the proper angle.
(good to see your words Pepto B.)

Mine has that bracket, welded to the bottom of the u-shaped part of the pulpit - but it snapped off at the weld, when the prev owner had it. Eventually I'll see if someone can weld it back, on the hard.

I don't want to penetrate the hull, so I'm leaving it where it is. For the half-season in 2010 I used it, I made a hardwood wedge that keeps the lamp assembly vertical, given that the center pulpit stanchion is at an angle. I screwed the fitting to this, and used plastic wire ties to fix the wedge to the stanchion. I used a piece of rubber sheet (from Home Depot) to create friction between the wedge and stanchion so it wouldn't rotate or slide. Of course, the rubber has disintegrated from UV. I will likely try to make a slot in the wood and use a stainless hose clamp for the upcoming season.

Not the best position, but at least if it gets banged it can be fixed - so far, the lamp assembly itself has not been damaged.

Dave, I understand about not being happy with your bow light
In the spring I will change mine out for a 2 nm LED bow light
Don't think mine is a 2nm light
I have a stainless plate welded to my pulpit.
Its original, I assume. You can barely see it in the first 3 pics in my profile
Also going to add a LED Anchor light and windex light
and a LED steaming light with a foredeck floodlight and LED stern Light
I have some small LED lanterns I use in the cabin as my cabin lights really
use alot of battery
Looking for some LED lights for the cabin but finding ones with a switch on them is proving difficult. Good luck with yours and let us know how it turns out. Charles

This is how mine is mounted. So far I haven't done anything to damage it. But now that I have a cool new asymmetrical spinnaker I'm pretty sure I'll knock it right off!

Hey Charles.. have you considered just swapping out the incandescent bulbs with LEDs? Several places now have direct replacement LED bulbs so you can use your existing fixtures. I plan on swapping all my bulbs out for LED, but have been waiting for the prices to drop a bit (they will eventually now that incandescents are going away and CFL/LED lighting is becoming the norm).

Cheers,
Brad

Brad, I thought the replacement LED bulbs were to large to put the original cover back on the cabin light fixture. Thats why I havnt done it already.
I,ll check into this, Thanks Charles
