During several winters my Hunter 23 was on a trailer and on a slant to drain the water out of the cockpit. I had place a tarp over the cabin part, to avoid leaks into the cabin which really works. After a heavy rain I have had a small amount of water in the lower area near the battery compartment and water seeping through the holes that were originally made during boat construction by the SS ballast bolts. I understand this is normal, but why is the bilge water by the ballast bolts hardly ever present in the summer, when the boat is in the water at the dock for 7 months? Where does the water from the weep holes come from? There is no tarp on the cabin during the summer months.

Begin by searching (see the top of this page). We have had this conversation before.
The weep holes down by the keelbolt access panels allow water to migrate slowly under the sole. The source of the water could be simply the anchor locker or the cockpit drain.
It could be complicated as was the project MEMAJOR had to do. Search the old threads.
Also before ripping things apart..... notice the color, odor & taste of that water.
coffee colored water has probably been filtered through wood/plywood. Possibly the plywood around the hull/deck joint.
If you have the original carpet glued to the hull, check the underside of the deck above the shelf. check for moisture all the way to the aft end of the Q-berth.
Please let all of us h23 guys know what you come up with.

I Just posted on this same thing, except my boat is in the water. The rear bilge always has 1/2" to 3/4" of water in it.
This weekend I dryed it out with a towel and saw just a few drops of water at a time
leak in from the most aft keel bolt.
I,ll reseal it when I pull her in the spring for a bottom job.

I would check the hose to the anchor locker, forward hatch cover and stanchions
