I have a Hunter 23.5 and while doing a swing keel line change have realized that the sheave at the base of the mast the carries the rope to the keel has deteriorated and has so much play that it is jamming. Has anyone replaced this sheave? I am assuming the mast base plate will have to come off and if so, how difficult is it to remove? Thanks for any help on this topic.

I took my base off once to reseal it. It looked to me like it was sealed with 4200. The most critical piece of this operation is to NOT strip the bolt heads. Make sure you get the largest bit that will fit snuggly in the threads. Then use a cordless drill driver and set the torque release kind of light on the drill driver. Wile pushing down firmly, repeatedly press the trigger and let the torque release do its thing.. I'm not sure if I'm using the right term when I say torque release, so here is a pic of what I mean...

If you set that kind of light, (6 or 7) you won't risk ripping the teath out of your bolt head when you pull the trigger. Be patient and just repeat pulling the trigger until the bolt starts to back out.

Thanks Rgranger. I am hoping it is easy to figure out how to change the sheave once I remove the base plate.

The pin is held in with 4200. I pulled mine and replaced the spacer for the two halyard sheaves. I used one of these...

Be patient and rotate the pin back and forth as you pull it. Have a small tube of 4200 handy for when you need to put it back in.
