I am fixing a ding on my rudder and I noticed that the two flat plastic or nylon bushings for the tiller are cracked and brittle. Does anyone know where I can get some replacement stock to make two more?

I'd bet that Hunter has them

I've also heard of someone using CDs to replace them too. (preferably some AOL CDs that they are forever cluttering the mailbox with).

Made Them

I had the same problem last year. Dinged rudder was fix with Marinetex and covered with gelcoat. The plastic spacers/washers fell into pieces when I took the rudder assembly apart. I used what was left of them as a pattern and cut the two pieces out of plexiglas. While I was at it I sent the tiller out to have the throughbolt hole filled and redrilled since it was wallowed out by the bolt threads. I replaced the bolt with a slightly longer one to keep the threads out of the tiller.

This is on my list of things to do as mine are also cracked. In the oil industry we use sheets of teflon and other plastic sheeting to provide an interface between two pieces of metal. It comes in various thicknesses. Look up in the yellow pages under "plastics".

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help guys. I actually found that Home Depot had small pieces of Lexan. Worked perfect and should last a season or two.

UHMW

Ultra High Molecular Weight ( UHMW) plastic sheet will work great or just HDPE High Density Polyethelene plastic. Lexan will work for a while also. The stuff is cracked on my '94 23.5 as well. someday I too will replace it.
