Hunter 23.5 original trailer

Can anyone help me with the name of the manufacturer of the original trailer that came with the Hunter 23.5 I contacted Hunter and they suggested I contact Magic Tilt Company. I contacted them and they don't recall making a trailer for Hunter. Same old, same old .... The trailer has no markings to indicate manufacture, other than a Vin (serial) number. It is a single axle with twin hull bunks and twin centerboard bunks. It has guide rails and a tongue extension and it is galvanized. The axle (single) is tubular and rusted so badly I am afraid to use it and the springs are just as rusted. I would like to change the axle and springs if I knew which parts and from who to order. Thanks in advance....PS I recall another sailor on this forum changing the axle.but can't find it in search.

Ken's Welding is the name of the company if I remember right.

That is not important any trailer place can make an axle for you.

Go tandem! I swear..so much nicer. Though the 23.5 is a bit lighter than the 23, I converted my trailer and have loved towing it ever since. Also converted to spring-under, getting the boat about 5" closer to the water for launching

The MSO fpr my old 23.5 trailer listed Hunter as the manufacturer. No telling if they contracted it out. Same for my 26.

Has any one else changed the axle and springs on their original Hunter 23.5 trailer and do you know where you obtained the new axle ?

In fact I bought two and made it a tandem axle trailer.

I think the original was from someplace named Ideal but I do not remember for sure. Other than having a 4" drop it was a lousy axle for a noat trailer.

There must be a welding place around who makes axles for trailers.

Another advantage to converting to tandem axles is you could put smaller wheels on it and get the boat lower to the water.

You don't need to go with the original mfg. The links above are fine suppliers of all things trailer. If you don't feel up to the job then look for a trailer shop near you and I guarantee they will just order parts from the after market guys.

Rick and Brian are absolutely right in upgrading their trailers to a tandem axle. I owned a 240 with a single axle and it pulled horribly. If you're replacing one, I'd strongly advise you to go for the 2nd axle with brakes all around. You'll be far safer and it'll pull 100% easier.

Hi Mike,

I don't know the manufacturer, but have a perfectly good Hunter 23.5 trailer from a 1993 model, fresh water use in the mid-west (Iowa), so no rust to speak of.

I may be visiting my family in central Mass. (Worcester, MA) area in mid-Aug. If I decide to drive, I could pull the trailer along for the ride and sell it to you if your interested. Let me know and we can explore this option further.
