I am think of moving up from a Hunter 170 and am looking at a 1984 Hunter 22. Is there anything I should be aware of with this boat? I want to be able to single hand the boat easily as well as launch and retrieve by myself from a very good ramp. Any thoughts? I may also be interested in the Hunter 23.5 water balast. How do they compare? Thanks, Brian

Trailer Sailing

I have an 81 hunter 22 and i just recently got one, wanted to move up. The hardest part is stepping the mast, i would reccomend an A-frame setup. Towing it is a breeze, I have an new dodge ram with a Hemi in it and i get almost 15-16 miles per gallon out of it. I live in central Florida so i trailer it everywhere, There is plenty of room down below, I just recently upholstered the interior blue, it looks sharp, and got a used 8 hp outboard, that is all ya need, I can single handled sail it, but launching and retrieving it are a chore, about an 1/2 hour to an hour each way to get things set up. any questions, ask, this is the place where i learned.

Launching

Thanks Mike. I have a storage space across from the ramp so the boat would stay set up. All I have to do is launch. Would the 22 be hard for one person to get on the trailer alone? The ramp is excellent with a dock next to it. Thanks, Brian

Just don't fall overboard!!!!

I have a magic tilt trailer. when the water is low, i swing out the tongue extenter and that works great, backing it up with the extender is somewhat of a pain, i just swing it out when i'm staged, another issuse i had was properly centering the boat over the trailer, i made up some brackets to guild the swing keel centered. Once the keel is centered, the rest will follow. Single handed sailing is not a problem, as all lines lead back, I'm contemplating investing in a roller furller this summer, its somewhat of a juggling act raising the jib when ya have to clip on each hank and try not to fall overboard, I did that once, slipped hit a wake, and fell, good thing i wasn't alone or i would of been doing alot of swimming.
