A local hunter 22 does really well withg a phrf over 250. Is this common?

PHRF

I have heard about one that was raced on Lake Ponchatrain with a ~245 rating that apparently did ok. That is a substantial handicap compared to most of the other boats racing. I have been tempted to race my H-22 in local club races with that handicap. Dan

Hi, I sail a 1988 h23 in the coastal waters off Southeast Florida. We race in our sailing club races against boats such as: S2 9.2, Siedleman 25, Catalina 27, Pearson 33, Islander 28, and a Hunter 25.5 among others. My rating is 255. Finshed second in the 10 race spring and and 10 race fall series in 1999. Put a new main sail on her earlier this year and in the first 2 races of our spring series got 2 bullets. The new open footed main and last years new 135% jib seem to be a good combo in 12-15 knots of wind. The boat reaches very well, but seems to make up the most distance down wind. We run wing and wing or poled out same side as boom depending on the wind direction. The bigger boats beat much better but we make up for it on other points of sail.

Forgot to point out that we have won just as many boat for boat as we have with the rating. It is always confortable to know that you have that cushion on time but the other guys really get upset when they look at your stearn. Good Luck,
