Would you recommend a hunter 22 on a tidal mooring. The mooring at its lowest is a foot and a half. soft mud no rocks

I will defer on this one to others. The only concern would be a swing keel being pushed up against the top of the swing keel housing when in the up position.

Like this?

I assume you mean the mid-80's H22. I don't do it all the time, as she is in a marina wet slip, but maybe once every couple months she gets dried out like this.
Does it hurt? after 5 yrs or so, i haven't noticed any issues, other than mud on the starboard side. It also gives a chance to clean the bottom.

dwdrums, You make the call.
A couple of years back I had my 81 H22 swing keel at a mooring with mud/rock/old 6" pipe 'bottom' in the arc of the boat's swing. At low tide it was not a problem as I had ~2' clearance, BUT an astronomical low tide combined with some wave action...the pipe (assumed) severely damaged my keel.

It was a PO-repaired swing keel and was not done with the best of quality, so I was not too surprised. Nonetheless, it was a calculated risk with some immovable objects... I lost. Replacement cost: $1100. Assuming you have an '80s H22 with a 1 1/2' draft - keel up, it's only a foam reinforced fiberglass keel. You say you have 'soft' mud...consider any wave/wind action that could exacerbate repeated impact forces.

I have since moved to where I have ~8' clearance at low tide so I could even keep the keel lowered, if desired (mud & grass bottom, immaterial now).

You make the call.

Boats differ in construction and thickness. If allowing to rest in the mud, the first thing to make sure there is no debri, rocks, and so forth to allow any damage. However, my concern is the contact point on the hull which can be an issue if for example the hull is thin and is it on one contact point without any load distribution in the mud. Yes it happens but once in a while I did have boats come in with damaged hulls due to resting in the mud. It depends on the boat model.

Guys thanks for the replies, I'm going to keep looking for something a little smaller/ less draft.
