Is it just me or is there a problem w/ the rudders on the 22's ? I recently purchased one less the rudder as I thought could make one using another as a pattern , but so far every 22 that I've seen is missing it. Any suggestions ? Thanks ,Jeff

Not sure what you mean

by "missing". You mean every 22 you've seen doesn't have a rudder? I have one on mine I got back in Oct. Has a problem with it since the prior owner put a non-stainless bolt down in it which is going to take some getting off. I can however, take pics if you need them. David G. "sea monkeys"

rudder h22

I think the 22 has the same rudder as lots of other hunters our h23 has a foss foam rudder, they still make rudders and were in the guest expert forum for a while/ u should be able to find them in the archives , be prepared , I think the rudder for our 23 is in the eight hundred dollar range, could be wrong , good luck in your search, as far as I know the problems with these were minor, a cracking down the seam, and easily repairable on a diy basis, , good luck , Mike B

Rudders

I think a number of older models have rudder problems. There have been several post about 25s losing their rudders. My 25 was missing its rudder when I bought the boat. Used another 25 to make a pattern. Good luck.

H22 Rudder Missing - Any Pictures Available ?

I too am in need of the correct rudder. When I bought my H22 last summer, I have come to learn that the rudder is a replacement, non-liftable rudder. This causes some minor issues such as; touches the muck at dock at low tide, cannot beach the boat as i would like. Whomever made the solid repalcement did a very good job (it must have come from some type of 'rudder house'), problem is, the way it is mounded, the rudder will only come off pivot pins is if the rudder is unbolted from the pivot brackets. If anyone comes across some pricing on replacement rudders, I'd like to know, Also, a picture of what the original H22 set-up is suppose to look like would be helpful as I may try to transform this solid rudder into a swing (tilt up-able) rudder. Thanks ! Jim Dunlea

to Dave (what do you mean?)

Some pics would be great , I don't mind building one , I just need some pics or at least some measurements . I'm considering modifying a Catalina 22 rudder and just going w/ that. Any input would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me at fast525@excite.com

Not sure?

I'll try to get down and get some close up pics and e-mail them to you. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think mine is an original. As I said, I think an owner along the line added a second bolt that is now rusted to keep it from swinging, so can't really get a measurment right now, but at least you can see how it's set up. The only thing that leads me to think it's the original is looking at the pic of the boat on here, the rudder looks exactly like mine, at least at the transom. David G. "sea monkeys"
