Hunter 22 leaky keel bolts

Hunter 22 Lake Nockamixon
We have a 1982 Hunter 22 that we (Wife and I) have rescued out of the weeds. It was my Father-In-Laws and it had not been in the water in at least 12 years. We've already put a bit of time and money in it and consider it a "labor of love". We recently launched and sailed it to make sure that it at least floats. That it does but it does have a slow leak that I believe is coming from the four screws that hold the swing keel bracket in place. I do not want to replace the pivot pin until this winter but would like to stop the leak now. Can I replace the four bolts and re-caulk from the trailer with the keel in the raised position? Has anyone had success with this approach?

rick221,

Yes, it IS possible to change out / re-caulk / seal the swing keel mounting bolts on the trailer. I once had actually changed out my wing keel while in the water. That was quite exciting !!

See the following thread for further details of the swing keel... and other info as well.

Let me know if it proves helpful to you.
