There had been considerable talk on the Hunter 216 forum about the tenderness of the Hunter 216. The stock sails come with one set of reefing points which reduces the sail area by 28%. Some have indicated the boat is still tender with the main reefed and the jib furled in 20-25 knot blows. I race a lot and have contemplated the addition of more reefing points, perhaps some less than the 28% and some more. I think I would be better off with a slightly reefed main and a jib than a more heavily reefed main and no jib. The jib cannot be "furl reefed". Do you have suggestions as to 1) the advisability of more reef points and 2) the optimum percentage of sail reduction for each set of reef points including any differences there might be if the intent is max speed for racing versus cruising comfort and control. Installing reef points that reduce the sail area more than 28% could be problematic due to the positioning of the lower batten.
