Just purchased a 2004 Hunter 216. I am currently working thru a few small issues with the boat. First being a small crack in the cabin top which I have found the proper 2 part epoxy and repair procedures. Second is I was missing the mast wedge, so have purchased one and now need to find a suitable pin. I am thinking I will go with a long bolt cut down and drill the ends to add retention rings. Also replacing the mast boot as its worn. Minor normal stuff

I think I may have an issue with my keel raising sailtec ram. I keep the boat on a lift so I leave the keel in the full down position. Its just been on the lift about 4 weeks now. When I lower the lift to work on the boat I raise the keel so the tide and waves don't rock the boat around on the lift. What I have noticed is the keel does not pull fully up. I under stand even when fully retracted the fin will stick out the bottom a few inches, but mine is at a pretty good angle and probably a foot out at the back. When pumping the ram the keel comes up fine until the eye of the cylinder is about 5-6 inches From the body of the cylinder. Its like I run out of pressure. At that point I can pump and pump and nothing happens. There is just no pressure I can feel at the handle. After doing some reading I believe the cylinder should retract within about 3/4-1 inch of the body. After some further reading it seems I could be low on oil and thats why I loose pressure after I have pumped as much oil as I can from one side of the head to the other. The ram was rebuilt 2 years ago at sailtec. Can anyone with a 216 advise if their ram pulls the eye all the way in against the body of the ram. Without measuring I would guess I have about 4-6 inches of the rid exposed after it stops. At that point when I pump the handle it just flops back and forth with no pressure.

I have tried the air bleed procedure with no charge.

Anything else I should know about the 216 is much appreciated. I will likely be single handling the boat often.

First, two part epoxy does not work on Plexus and plastics.
Go to boat information/Hunter resources/216/downloads and there will you find a lot of information. In addition, check the archives for info on the keel

make sure the pin for mast is not threaded
You can order it thru the forum store

I have the 2 part Devcon that was purchased off of the Hunter site. Maybe 2 part epoxy was the wrong verbiage to describe it.

I am not in need of a mast pin. I am in need of a pin for the mast wedge that goes aft of the mast directly under the cabin top. I did not see the proper pin for sale on the site. The only pin I saw in there was a 3 1/2 inch pin. The wedge requires somewhere around a 5-6 inch pin. If they had the proper pin I would have happily ordered it when I ordered the wedge. Would have made for a 5 minute install instead of a project.

I have searched the archives for information on how far the hydraulic cylinder retracts. I am not able to find anything specific to that. I did read thru the downloads and thats were I found info that seemed to imply the rod end eye should retract within 3/4-1 inch of the end of the body. Seems to me it should retract so the eye is pretty close to the end of the body. That is the normal operation of most hydraulic cylinders. Im pretty sure I have an issue, just trying to verify its not supposed to stop there. It's not a huge pressing issue for me as I keep the boat on a lift and the keel stays down. Would just prefer to have it capable of proper operation and have the ability to put it on the trailer if needed. I'm 75% sure that it would go on the trailer currently with the trailer keel tray/ track pushing the keel in the rest of the way.

Thank you for your reply.

I've searched using about every verbiage I can think of but nothing specific to how far the ram retracts. I plan to unhook the cable and run the cylinder in unweighted and see how far it goes. If I have the same result I will likely bring it home and attempt to add oil per the instructions in the download manual.

There is one person who is knowledgeable on it but cannot remember his name. Anyone can remember his name? Wayne ?
If not go to the help desk and you will be speaking to former Hunter employees

my sailtec pulls in all the way to the fork - no chrome piston showing when it's vertical, about 1/2" showing when it's horizontal - I suspect an air bubble I have to get out

My cylinder retract all the way. No rod showing.
I had the same issue and you need to top up the oil and/or bleed out air. It helps to take the cylinder off the boat and store it vertical when not in use for a long time.
