Hi All,

I'm looking for the dimensions for the Hunter 216 spinnaker. I'm trying to find a used spinnaker that will fit.

Anyone selling a Hunter 216 spinnaker kit?

A new asymmetrical spinnaker for the H 216 costs more than I paid for the boat. I did however find a symmetrical Catalina 22 spinnaker + pole for a very reasonable price that I will be picking up this weekend. The pole is 8' long, about 8" longer (9% more) than the H216 "J" dimension of 7.33ft. The hoist ("I" dimension) is about 4' taller than the top of the jib tang. The distance from the top of the jib tang to the top of the mast is 6' so I'll be mounting the halyard pulley 2' lower than the top of the mast.

This is going to be a big sail that will definitely "turbo" the boat. I am an experienced sailor with lots of dinghy experience so I'm comfortable with being on the edge of reason and out of control. This will only be used in 10 knots of wind and under. If its blowing, I'll race in the non-spinnaker class in my local fleet. I may have to add additional mast support. either running backstays going to the point of the spinnaker hoist or a regular backstay with a flicker at the top of the mast to get past all that roach. Maybe a frack line running from the bow to the spreaders to keep the mast from bending forward while under spinnaker.

Since my boat is currently not set up with the spinnaker package, I will be making one myself. My questions to Hunter 216 people out there with the spinnaker package are:

1. How is the spinnaker halyard cleated off? is there a fairlead on the mast with a cam cleat a few feet below that? That's probably how I'll be doing it.
2. How are your spinn sheet blocks attached to the cockpit coaming? Are they bolted with backing plates or simply screwed down?

I like the way you think!

For sure you'll need some sort of backstay to the level of the spin hoist to be safe.

Regarding fracking, as you have roller furling, after you furl the sail tight cleat the furling line, then pull hard on both sheets and cleat them. Fracked!!

Good idea! I have seen this on other roller furling boats I've crewed on, but looking back, the boat was a fractional but I think the spinnaker was also fractional. I think that fracking the jib sheets will take out the slack on the forestay, but I'm also worried about the mast bending forward above the hounds, and backwards towards the stern below them.

I'll have to see what happens when I hoist the spinnaker for the first time. There are two blocks on the mast for lazy jack lines that I might rig up a baby stay like on the old IOR boats so the bottom of the mast doesn't bow backwards.

For sure that is a lot unsupported spar without even a backstay. And fore sure you don't want the mast to invert. A babystay would help that. The First 235 had one for that exact reason. Complicates spinpole work however!

Got the Spinnaker this past weekend. Its in excellent condition came with all sheets, halyards, etc. and a spinnaker pole in excellent condition. Its an older sail, but when I took it out of the bag to inspect it, the owner said it was the first time he'd ever seen it out of the bag! Can't wait to get this thing flying
