I have a crack in the floor of the cockpit on my Hunter 170. Is there anything I shoud use to make a proper repair to the crack?
Thank you, BW
Hi, Bill, welcome to the world of AGP Crack repair! It's probably the most discussed H170 topic and you probably don't have to look to deep in this forum for discussions. I'll save you a bit of time, however, look at
http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=68 for instructions. A few hints:
- Make sure you drill the ends of the crack and carve out a groove as described in the instructions to enlarge the adhesion area
- The repair can be painted using the spray paint described but I've been using a 2-part auto paint matched to the boat.
- Last crack repair session (yes, they do tend to show up every now and then) I used G-Flex instead of the Devcon Plastic Welder that's normally used. See the kit that includes the filler at
http://shop.hunterowners.com/prod.php?13522. Seems to work well and is useful for other applications as well.
Just FYI, I had cockpit floor cracks that I did not believe would withstand the flexing of normal operation after standard repair. I endeded up applying a single layer of fiberglass using epoxy resin. Painted with the auto paint described above and applied anti-skid intended for shower applications (although OEM parts are sold here) and I'll never worry again.
