On the hull of the boat running along both sides of the centerboard is a strip of what appears to be fiberglass or plastic. One side has come loose and is only supported at the front of the hull. 1. What does this do? 2. Does it need to be fixed, it drags under the boat? 3. How do you fix it. Thanks

cb strip

The strip is probably a seal to keep water from splashing into cockpit. How's the front attached? Adhesive? I would contact hunter and ask them.

Same problem - fixed mine

Stu - The aft 6" or so of my centerboard flaps were loose when I purchased the boat new. After towing the boat several hundred miles, 18-24" hung down (probably made worse as the loose ends flapped in the wind). I made an "emergency" repair with a name-brand Exterior Mounting Tape (a 2-sided tape) from a big-box hardware store. The tape is 1" wide and meant to be used to mount house numbers, etc. - claims to be weather-resistant, but no claim of being waterproof. However, this "temporary" repair has worked better than the original factory adhesive, has survived 2 seasons of numerous launches and over 3,000 road miles. Only downside was crawling under the boat to install the tape!

Take it to the dealer

I had this problem when mine was new. First I contacted JY Sailboats who manufactured 170 and they sent me the part and instructions. I replaced the bad side after cleaning as specified. That lasted a month. I then tried to live without. I did not notice any problems during the next six months. I had some other little things and took it to dealer. While there I mentioned this and when I returned they had repaired it and I never had another problem with it. All on warrantee and no sweat. DO GIVE THEM A CHAANCE TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
