The manager of my boatyard replaced the hull zincs for me this weekend
He said he does not like the way they are mounted. He said that as
the zincs deteriorated around the bolts that hold them on, it could
sink the boat.
Is there anything unusual about the way Zincs mount on a Vega or is
it just my boat?
It's my first boat, so I don't exactly understand how the zincs
normally are mounted.
I guess I'm somewhat concerned, but the zincs that were there had
been there at least 2 years in the water and were very deteriorated
when the bost was surveyed prior to that. They still were not
leaking.
He also said that he has a spare MD6A that he had recently removed
from another boat. He said it was running fine but the owner wanted
a new engine for reliability. He said he'd sell it for $700.
I considered buying it as a spare, but It sounds like a spare that is
basically the same as what I have. Runs fine, but I'd be afraid to
start out on a long cruise where I really had to count on it.
Not sure it would make sense for me. (I'm really hoping I can keep
my current engine running for a couple of years and replace it with a
beta)
Thought I'd pass on the info in case anyone is in the market for a
replacement.
