I own a Capri 22 Sail #59 (1985). The lower aft section of the hull (on both sides) becomes indented when I put the boat on a trailer or boat lift. I understand that the early Capri 22's were retrofitted with more fiberglass for some reason. Has anybody experienced this problem? know of the problem? know of a solution for this problem?

Tender Hulls

Dick S.: Perhaps a fiberglass connection between hull and bulkhead(s) has broken loose. This fall while jacking my Cat 22 up from the trailer, I had a similar indent occur temporarily way up forward. When I got it back on better support, I checked all the compartments way up forward. Surprisingly I found that the boat does not have a stem like we used to build into wooden boats, and that the nearest bulkhead joint to hull had cracked somewhere near where I had placed the jack. Next spring I intend to refiberglass the cracked joint with a strip of glass cloth plus resin, but am still trying to figure how best to do this and not become "high" on the fumes. Will opening up everthing, using a fan, and applying resin on a windy day be sufficient or will I need to use a very long snorkel? Dick, in your case you ought to look for the bulkheads as places to put on the slings when it is lifted-- perhaps they just missed the strong places in the past. I'd guess that pretty near the transom and just forward of the keel are the stronger points. Also, anything to spread the pressure on the slings, like the wider the better, might help. Dick K.

Thanks for the info

Dick K. Thanks for your response. I will probably try your suggestion in the spring. Dick S.
