While I was docking this weekend, my boat came into contact with the piling. In the process, some paint peeled off where the scratch was made. What can I use to retouch the scratch caused by the piling? The hull is white. Thanks!

Finding a match will be near impossible unless

you know what brand of paint is on the boat now. If the scratch is in the gelcoat, you can go to Westmarine and they may have a match, depending on the year/make/model of the boat. Since you say it peeled off, it is probably painted. However, peeling paint is a sign of an improperly primed and preped hull. I say live with it until you are ready to paint again.

I tried last week to order from West

Marine for a small scratch, but they said the product has been discontinued...

My local West has it and it's in the catalog...

The one I am referring to is made by Spectrum. There is also a product for gelcoat repair by Seafit but you have to match the color yourself.

paint/gelcoat repairs

there are plenty of posts in the gelcoat/fiberglass BB on this site that will address your question. gelcoats and paint are not to hard to work with but as its been noted if its paint it will be a pain to match it and if it is paint its probably linear polyureathane which is not to hard to work with but for 1st timers can be intimitating. you can fill the scrape w/epoxy and use a small airbrush to refinish the repair. if its gelcoat, whites not to bad to match as long as the repair area is small.i think the one thng i've learned over the years is that no one will notice a small repair if you don't point it out but on thre other hand you'll always know it's there....good luck!
