HULL PINHOLES

Ahoy again Mateys! I recently inspected the hull of a 1977 Albin 27
that I am interested in purchasing. It had a significant number of
pinholes in the gel coat below the waterline. No signs of delamination
or serious structural issues. Can I assume that a good application of
two-part epoxy barrier coat will rectify this problem? Or will it
simply show up again? Has anyone seen this and successfully corrected
it? Thanks. Trev Leech.

Hi Trev

I had this on Southern Comofrt and just acleaned and applied four coats
of Gelshield Epoxy Treatment six years ago and all has been well since.

Cheers

I have had the same problem 2 years ago with my 1974 Vega. About 80 pinholes below the water line, a lot of them also in the keel, diameter of these holes approx. 0.5 - 1 mm. I filled them with epoxy filler and haven't applied a barrier coat afterwards, but no problems since. No new pinholes have showed up yet.

Thank you, Lucas and Steve, for your responses. I am going to take
the Albin for a test drive this weekend. If all goes well, I may
become a proud Albin owner (with lots of fixing up to do).
