The dark blue hull on my '75 Catalina 22 is heavily oxidized. Any ideas on how to restore a nice, shiny finish? Thanks.

I had the same trouble with a neglected 1977 C-22. Just a few months ago I tried Island Girl Products. The results were remarkable (maybe an understatement). I would recommend checking out their web site. I've only had it in the water for a few days but all seems to be holding up well. Some of the other products are Vert Glass and Poly Glow, however these are acrylic based and will actually peel off over time. Web site : www.islandgirlproducts.com Adam

Gelcoat Forum
Jim Willis, founder of Island Girl, has a gelcoat forum on this site. You can ask specific gelcoat questions there. I have yet to try his products but the great majority of folks here who have, love them. I've used FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover) to mild success. It's basically just oxalic acid in gel form so you have to wear heavy duty protective gear and it doesn't really do much for the oxidation, just staining. Definitely NOT environmentally friendly! Hazardous chemical
I'm no chemist nor botanist but I'm guessing that the stuff in FSR is more concentrated, thus more toxic, than anything in plants. I could be wrong - wouldn't be the first time.

LDPoliglow is the stuff
Poliglow has made my hull look brand new. It's lasted now three years. It hasn't peeled anywhere. The directions say to refresh every year with another coat or two. This is an easy process. You clean the boat with cleaner they supply. Wash and them apply poliglow with supplied applicators. Took me about 2 hours to apply 5 coats to the hull of the catalina 22. Have enough left for another 5 coats. Sure beats sanding and sanding and sanding. Good Luck Kenn
