I just received this message from Marlow-Hunter about hull numbers and thought I would pass it on to all:
Hello Dusty,
It should be mentioned, we are not the manufacturer of your boat and unfamiliar with your specific model (see italicized info below). However, we will try to answer your questions as best we can.
Hunter Marine located its Hull Identification Number (HIN) on the starboard aft side of your boat, under the rubrail. An additional location was either under the steering quad cover (cockpit sole under helmsman) or
seahood (just forward of the companionway slider/doors).
Its format is US-HUNYYXXXDXZZ:
“US” - country origin
“HUN” – Manufacturer
“YY” - model number
"XXX" - hull number
“D” - manufacture start month code
“X” - manufacture year code
“ZZ” - model year
We show the Hunter 420 production life was from 1998-2005.
Hope that helps.
(Please be advised, Hunter Marine Corporation (HMC), the manufacturer of your Hunter model, no longer exists as a business entity. The company filed for bankruptcy status in 2012. This information is of public record.
Within the dissolution of HMC, an individual purchased some auctioned assets, including the Hunter brand name, and formed a new corporate entity named Marlow-Hunter, LLC (MHLLC). This purchase did not include any liabilities, existing warranties or other connection to HMC other than these assets and began marketing the brand name Marlow Hunter. MHLLC boats utilize the “MHL” manufacturing designator within the HIN number of its products rather than the “HUN” manufacturing designator of HMC.
MHLLC has no standing or authority to provide model specific information on HMC products. However, as a courtesy, we do provide information developed and publicly available from HMC during its operations. Relatedly, MHLLC has no standing or authority to provide any information nor possesses any documentation on individual purchase transactions by customers of HMC.)
Regards,
