When the boat is in motion, the bottom of the hull, on both sides of the centerboard trunk also move with the water pressure passing beneath. This makes me nervous. It happens only on either side of the centerboard trunk, not between the seats closer to the stern. Is this common or is something (like ribs) broken? It's a 1965 Daysailor.

Well

Kelly - All boats flex. Some you can see and some you can't. I have a friend who lived aboard while cruising Tonga. A Basque family sailed in - on a Cal 22 no less - one day and the son reported watching thse hull flex while sailing in big seas. That said, I'd have your boat looked at. I'd be willing to come have a look if you like; I live right in Portland so getting up to Yarmouth is not an issue. Drop me a note: jandrus@maine.rr.com if you like. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
