I have a 1984 Hunter that has mildew growth above the boot stripe. This has been going on for the last three years. I wax the hull every spring before putting in a fresh water lake in Wisconsin. There are older boats on my dock, but mine is the only one that has the problem. I have to wash it off with a muratic acid solution twice a summer. Is there a product or a solution out there ? The mildew will grow to 2 feet above the water line if left untreated.

Soooooooooo, thats how you do it, youre rubbing the hull down with butter or something like that 
JB, get some Greased Lightning at Menards and clean your hull this fall. GL will strip all the wax of the freeboard and kill the mildew and sponge on some bleach water. Next spring wax her up and see the results. Issue might be related to the amount of sun that your hull does not get on the "new"dock. Also diesel fuel from various boats are creating a buffet as its glommed onto youre boat combined with shade and cooler temps.

The muriatic acid removes the wax, so once your protection against the mold/mildew is gone. Next time you haul out, use the muriatic acide, then use a light polish on the hull to remove microscopic scratches that can "house" the spores, then wax twice.
