The hull liner on my '78 30', has decided that it is going to retire and assume a horizonal rather than vertical position. Has anyone fould a good place to buy a nice replacement material?

Hull Liner

You can use indoor/outdoor carpeting. We pulled the nasty brown liner off our 79 H30 last year and are replacing with carpeting this year. The cost will be anywhere between $60 & $100 for the whole boat compared to over $600 for that leather looking hull liner.

Insulate???

We did, but then we sail on Lake Superior, not California...but it keeps the boat cool in the summer and warmer in the autumn. Went to an auto supply wholesaler specializing in interiors. Got auto headliner material..kind of a synthetic courdory that had 1" closed cell foam attached to the back. Then after tearing out the ugly sofa pattern installed it with the foam side to the hull with spray adhesive - smelly, so ventilate and wear a mask. Comes in many colors.

Auto Headliner with foam backing great on '77/27

I recently purchased a 1977 Hunter 27. I pulled old hull liner and went to fabric/foam wholesaler in Houston and purchased auto headliner. It comes in a variety of colors and is fabric over foam about 1/8"+ thick. I used the contact cement they recommended. I took my measurements, cut oversized on dock, did a dry run fit, then started with top and edges and glued in place. I spot glued, full on top and edges, you will be able to see what works best for you. The foam backing has stopped hull condensation and looks great. A very simple and inexpensive way to renew interior. I paid $5/yard for 5 yards and $20 for glue. I bought a gallon of glue. Didn't use more than a pint.

Boat US, 2003 Catalog Pg.661, Item 172304

Marine Headliner/Hull Liner is on page 661 of the 2003 Boat US catalog. It's item number 172304 at $19.99/yard and the color swatches are free, item #172361. I used this when I renovated my 1980 Cherubini. Just scrape off the old as best you can with a sharp chisel or putty knife and smear a thick coat of the gel contact cement and then lay on the foam backed fabric and smooth with a rolling pin. I suggest you call them to order since the West Marine buy out may have caused confusion. 1-800-937-2628. Good luck

I purchased my hull liner from...

Hunter Marine. Their response was great, the installation went very well and I'm happy with the final look. Email me if you want more info (bartellmike@aol.com).
