My P33 is domumented as being built in 1969. The ID plate, below the companionway, states that it is Hull # 114. How can this be? Met a gentleman, several years ago at a boatyard, with a later year (think 1972) P33. The boats were identical in all major ways. His P33 Hull ID #, 112, has had me confused since then. Just thought I would throw this out. We can speculate reasons but does anyone KNOW? TIA JC Wandering C's Ft. Myers, Fl.

The Problem with "the low down on HIN #'s"

"All boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN." This is a quote from the refered site. Your suggestion is appreciated, however, Wandering C's built in 1969 does not have this information. Thankful for you help, JC

HIN vs ID plate

The HIN only has three (3) digits for the hull number, so when you go over 999, it has to roll back to 000 (for 1000). The year code makes up for the roll-over and gives a unique ID. For instance, the ID plate under my traveller says "Pearson, Portsmouth RI, #1104". But my HIN is PEA46104M75I. The 104 in the HIN is the Hull Number, but you have to know that it is really Hull 1104. See the attached link. Fair Winds!!!
