i WAS RECENTLY GIVEN A CATALINA 22, I AM UNABLE TO FIND THE HULL NUMBER AND THE STATE WILL ONLY ACCEPT A TRACING. THE BOAT IS A 1975 CATALINA 22, ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW WHERE THE I.D. NUMBER IS SUPPOSED TO BE LOCATED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ASSISTANCE!!!!!

take a look at this site, I think you will find what your looking for. http://www.catalina22.org/techtips/sailnumbers.htm The ID number is on the aft starboard side under the rub rail. at times there so light you might try a pencil to darken the number. There is also a transom plate in the cockpit under the tiller on mine with the number on it.

Often it's very faint
On our Catalina 30, the hull number was so faint that, even though I knew exactly where to look, I couldn't find it until I shined a flashlight over it at a very oblique angle. I'm considering etching it more deeply with a dremel tool since it's so hard to see. Look on the stbd side of the transom immediately below the rubrail.
