Hull getting out of shape

Calling all experts!!My H240 is showing signs of 'hull flattening' albeit slight, just in front of where she sits on the 'duck boards'. I bought the boat at the end of the summer, sailed her once and towed her back home ( around 100 miles). So nothing that I would have thought would have caused this kind of damage.Has anyone else see this happen - what caused it? What did you do about it? Is it a hull defect that is covered by warranty? ( somewhat hopeful I know ).Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.A Merry Christmas to you all...........Tim

trailer trouble

I have had the same problem on two boats. The hull buckled because of pad placement or being loaded on the trailer improperly.KEEL boats need to rest on the keel.The pads carry some of the weight but mostly balance the boat upright.The good news is that if you dont leave the problem and correct the pad placement, the fiberglass will flex back to the original shape---slowly.Good sailing.

regarding the previous reply I have heard some where that only 40% of the boat weight should be on bunks and remaining should be keel, might want to check withhunter for the specifics , julst to be sure, good luck Mike B

Hull - getting in shape!!

Thanks very much for the replies - I am happy to report that 'we're getting in shape for Xmas' - I too deduced that the trailer had a lot to do with it - over here (UK) we have to have 6" or so taken out of the middle of the trailer to reduce it's width - to be road legal. This means that the forward roller doesn't make contact with the hull, giving no support. The previous owner had wrongly decided to do nothing about it and as he 'dry sailed' the boat over the previous 3 years the boat gradually sagged under her own weight!Well I rectified this and happy to report, as predicted, the hull is slowly coming back to shape - wish I could do the same over the Xmas period!!She will be on a mooring next year so no problems there - apart from the odd hurricane we've been getting of course!Thanks once again and happy holidays!Tim
