Looking at a `94 23.5 to buy and while it was on its trailer I noticed that where the centerboard enters the hull at the forward end the hull fiberglass appears to be missing large chunks on the radius of the curve going into the centerboard well. I did not get up under the boat to investigate further, but I am guessing this is broken off due (maybe??) to the centerboard wobbling around in the well when down and possibly cracking and dislodging the glass in this area. The other thought I had was that maybe this is normal - like maybe where the centerboards pivot pin slides up into the well. Anyone have any experience/comments on this???

Sounds Like it is OK

I looked at my owners manual and that end of the CB has a cut out on it as if there are different radius circles with a portion of the larger cut out. Ask to see the owners manual and compare what you see to the drawing in the last section of the manual.

I would have someone check it out

Barry I don't think the bottom of my boat has any ragged area where fiberglass is missing in chunks around the ceterboard. That seems like a problem you should have checked out. If you want to going sailing sometime you can come with us on Jordan Lake and see how you like sailing a 23.5. Frank Email: Ladd333@aol.com

Well, Maybe Not

When I first read the post I thought it was the notch in the CB being described if that is not the case it sounds like one to be avoided.
