Hi, my new to me boat is in a waterless yard. I would like to clean, polish, and wax the hull before it is launched. Any suggestions of products I could use that doesn't require a lot of water. I guess most folk use buckets. I was also told that there are some that invest in water tanks and use pumps. I don't want to invest much in this problem, since I won't be storing my boat in this yard next winter. The hull look clean, I'm betting that is was powerwashed in the fall. Could I skip the wash part, and move right to polish and wax? Thanks

I use Simple Green with one part to 10 parts of water. Then spray it on and wipe off. If you have marks from the dock I use Acetone to remove. Then polish and wax the hull.

Good luck!

Just did this yesterday at Sandusky Harbor Marina.
Before buffing and waxing, used bucket of water and went over hull with a Mr. Clean "white sponge", then used wetted microfiber to rinse. Went very quick and did an excellent job. Even removed black streaks from the hull.
I have been following Maine Sail for years and have followed his protocol for buffing and waxing. This year a tried a new product for wax.
Following wash, used Presta Chroma with wool pad. This did an excellent job on creating a mirror shine. After buffing, tried a new product from Presta. Presta has recently come out with a marine line. Waxed boat with Presta Marine UV Creme Wax using applicator to put on, and microfiber to remove. I was very impressed. Wax went on and off easily on a 50 degree day. Was able to wash, buff, and wax 41' boat topsides in less than six hours.
Ready to Launch!

Gary's Royal Satin Wax

I have used Royal Satin Wax to clean and polish my hull without water.

One step process:
It has a solvent in which removes grime and marks from docking. There is a film left over which you can polish off by hand.

For really tough marks you can just do it twice.

Google: "Gary's Royal Satin Wax" to find places selling it online.

A few brief question for those who use the MaineSail Presta process.

1) MaineSail had recommended using an acid based cleaner like On & Off to clean the hull before compounding. Is it necessary to clean the entire hull and cockpit with the On & off solution to remove existing/old wax or is the On & Off only for removing waterline stains like tannin etc..? My concern is, I don't want to muck up the pads with old wax when using the Presta Gelcoat Compound etc..

2) For areas where the buffer pad cannot reach (or very tight spaces) can the Presta products be used by hand effectively?

Thanks for your replies.

Presta Products Marine Line

bluefin,
I have had good luck using the Presta Products in tight areas without buffer.
The Presta UV Creme wax has cleaning properties and seems to be equally effective as Meguire's 50. Just finished top of boat and used the UV wax and am extremely happy with the results.
