Holding tanks!
Read my posting on the Aft Holding tank. When I finally got the cabin sole up, the aft tank, which is located just inboard of the nav table, had been leaking under the cabin sole. The surveyor thought the odor was the hoses, but it wasn't! The tank had been leaking around the cover plate, which was only held in place with fiberglass tape. Look real close for discolored cabin sole around that area, which would probably indicate a leak problem. The tank is integral to the hull liner, and it's not easy to get to! Take a good look at the bottom, just when the boat is hauled for survey. Make sure the surveyor sounds out the hull, deck and rudder. My rudder has some voids, but that's not that difficult to fix. My hull and deck sounded out very good, but there were lots of small blisters. (That can work for you, if you can negotiate a better price and then do the work yourself). It's technical, but it's not rocket science to install a barrier coat. Watch for water intrusion under the mast. Mine is clean there, but I've heard that it can be a problem. All in all, though, they seem to be good boats, and I'm enjoying mine. Fixing things is part of the fun, too. Norm, S/V LIBERTY, Solomons, MD
