Thought this might be a good question to ask too. Anyone know the
history on (or have any info on) hull 1222?

Thanks!

Sorry Jonathon, but I didn't see #1222 in any of the American Vega
Assn. membership lists that I was able to check ('90,'94,'97,or '99)

Jonathan,
If I'm looking at pictures of the right boat,
then I don't think it can be hull #1222. My reason for saying this is
my boat, a 1971 Series I Vega, has a higher number: #1331.
The boat in the pictures is definately a later Series II Vega (1974
according to the ad), as it has recessed cockpit locker latches and
an aluminum-coloured mast with the roller reefing handle that sticks
out of the forward face of the mast.

My Series I has a gold-coloured mast with the reefing handle attached
to the boom, and non-recessed cockpit locker latches. The recessed
gauge area and traveller track also indicate a Series II boat.

Hmmmm, I could be wrong (it's happened twice this week already) and
would be interested to know what more knowledgeable members of the
forum come up with!

Another mystery to solve :)

Hi

Having ahd a look at the photos I agree that it is a late Series II (If the mast is original). Moulding in the cockpit also confirms Series II. What was the original engine? Where on teh transom is the exhaust outlet (original)? If the exhaust is on the starboard side then Series II, if in the centre of teh transon then Series I

Hope this helps. Looks a nice Vega and in good condition.

Cheers

Hi!

This boat looks like a copy of mine. All the details are the same from the mast to the stove. I have number 2757 from 1976.

Yours,

Interesting; I wonder if I got the hull number backwards, and it's
2221... Either way, definitely need to solve this one.

Thanks everyone else as well, even though it's likely the wrong hull
number. Oops!

Engine was a Volvo, but not sure on the series; it has been removed,
tank removed, and shaft hole plugged.

I think as well that the exaust was two mushroom vents on the aft deck
behind the cockpit...? But I'm not sure. Needless to say, I'm going
to be visiting it today for some further investigation, so I'll know
then. :)

Thanks. :)

Ok, so "Halcyon" which just sold in Annapolis, MD, was hull 2140 built
in \'74, so that means mine is likely 2221 and we (or I :p) just got
the numbers mixed up. :)

And doing the math on the difference between Peter\'s \'71 #1331 and
Björn\'s \'76 #2757, one comes up with a \'74 number of 2044, plus or
minus probably 200 or so, so I think it definitely makes more sense
that I\'m an idiot and it\'s #2221. :)

Sorry and thanks everyone. :)

Jonathan,
No need to apologise! We Vega owners have to look out for each other.
Regardless of her number, she is in very good shape.

Jonathan, Sail #2221 is not in the membership lists either but is
bracketed by sail numbers which would indicate, as you thought, it was
built in '74. Regardless, you will love it. (had an absolutely
beautiful sail today, I'm still floating a bit off the ground ;-)

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Our boat, Carpe Diem, Vega 2141, is a 1973 and looks like a series II, just like the boat in question. Am I helping or hurting here?

Helping, I think. :) If it's a '73 Series II, then I'd assume that
it's a late '73 - a "1973 1/2" in car terms, I guess :) - so that
makes it all the more likely that the soon-to-be-mine Vega built in
'74 is hull 2221. :)
