I may be accepting an assignment in Toronto Canada and as a liveaboard in Mystic CT I'm wondering if I can take an inland route to Lake Ontario via the Hudson & Erie Canal system? Has anyone made this trek and care to share the do's and don'ts of the experience? I'm certain the mast will have to come down and be secured on deck. Other than hearing about it some time ago I'm very curious if this an option rather than the loooong way around through the St. Lawrence??? Thanks for any input Jerry Keto 1983 - H34 (deep draft - 5'8") ketoja@dnc.dom.com p.s., anyone have any experience living aboard in Canada as a Documented US vessel?

Erie Canal

I used to live in Rochester NY. We saw yachts taking the canal between Buffalo & the Hudson River all the time. Altho I haven't done it by boat, I know that the canal is a well-maintained system. If you go, stop at Pittsford on the East Side of Rochester. There are a couple of good restaurants right at the canal. Good luck!

Erie Canal System

New York has a canal system that is used by many, many transients/snow birds every year. Enter the Erie canal at or around Albany, NY on the Hudson river and exit at Oswego, NY on Lake Ontario or visa versa. Beautiful in the fall! Paul
