Has anyone considered fitting a Hoyt Jib boom to a catalina. I realise that the hatch probably interferes with the 10% of j placement. But I'm not sure if this is a problem.
The system sounds very handy, especially downwind.
Any comments would be appreciated.

We had a Hoyt boom on the staysail on our 38 IP. Because of the different mounting angles for the boom anchor assembly I think it would be a very hard instillation to do correctly. They are really neat and easy to use if done right.
There currently are a number of jib traveller assemblies that do the same function, easily, and would be considerbily cheaper. I would go that route myself. This setup does limit you to that sail size and would need to be of a size in the 95% range. If your boat is fractionally rigged then that is no problem. You can still mount an asymetrical spinnaker in front of the jib but it might require a bow sprit.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that info Ray,I like the idea of the Hoyt because it maintains sail shape like a boom vang, especially downwind.
Cheers
